day 07, Wednesday 29 April 2009
Luckily I was able to present today.. and thus my work is not wasted. I gained a lot valuable comments for the character designing. (the suit shd be more sloppy, too little and all). I am also rather demoralised tha everyone's storyboard look so much better than mine but oh well.. just had to polish on the drawing more...
Anyway.. can I stop here today? I promise to get my new character design updated in the near future.. but lemme rest for now..ZzzZzzZzz

Day 06, Tuesday 28 April 2009

To be honest, it is 5:20 AM in the morning on Wednesday, I had not totally finish my presentation PPT, however I still tried my best to finish this blog and put my updates as much as I can...(applause for me please..)
Today, I was the first from my group to consult, Alan commented that my story is too long and it will be more effective if I end it at the liquid asset part. Alan also said that I used too many centered shots in my framing and it will be good if i put more connection between the audience and the characters. Thus, I fixed my storyboard a bit and added a overshoulder shot of the judge facing the audience and Bin Wit Bum. Alan also said try to avoid newspaper (try to avoid making the audience read to understand). I thought of making TV news instead of newspaper, however, I have already scanned all in and actually quite too tired to think of TV news angle alternative. However, I imagine it will be sort of TV news in The Simpsons.
As for learning contract, Alan said that my Aims are more like outcomes, thus I have to fix it to make it more 'closed' and more 'personal'. Thus I changed my aims to practice my comic timing and character design and also to expand my portfolio.
Look... I am sorry if the blog for today is super short, I am rather tired,.. fine I will elaborate on what I do today, as a special service as I love you guys for still wanting to read my blog :D . As soon as I reached home at around 7:30, I started to sketch on my characters. As soon as my sister finish using my computer (yeah she is being inconsiderate and play games on my PC while I am actually quite busy); I started on the BG design, it was not easy as I had to fully color it. I asked Raj for opinion, he was very nice to give me constructive comments on the props and all (thanks Raj, you're a good friend)!!.
After that, I scanned the Bin Wit Bum and vectorised him totally (with color and all with all that 4 angles). As soon I finish, I started editing my storyboard. As the framing is jumbled all over, I had to edit the sequencing in PPT, it is actually rather time consuming and... irritating... Then, I still had to do on my judge... vectorised and all... color... yucks...
Alas, I forgot about moodboard, It was getting late, thus I just used the same BG design I did, duplicates the judge 4 times, do necessary editing and voila... 4 makeshift jury... for lawyer.. I duplicate Bum x2 , edit... and Alakazam.... We have 2 lawyers... Sure I will fix them in the future but not now when I am rushed for times..
There you have it my activity for the day.. I think I will jus attach my works... and hope I do not fall asleep during uploading... wish me luck guys...

Day 05, Monday 27 April 2009
Thursday, April 23, 2009
Day 04, Friday 24 April 2009
Alan reminded us that next week presentation for interim will be at Wednesday/Thursday. There will be consulattion period at Monday/Tuesday. My group will be on Tuesday. So I guess I do not have to turn up early on Monday. I just have to remember to finish my learning contract by Monday night at least..
I did manage to comment a bit on Nafisah and Rachael's blog, though most of the other comments are done through online discussion. Rachael also commented my animation will be quite long.. and frankly speaking I am afraid of that too..
On Weekend I did a bit of character design but seriously I have no idea what to aim for. I also did a bit of story planning and a BIT of storyboard (seriously no mood). I have yet to do my learning contract, maybe tonight..

Day 03 - Thursday, 23 April 2009
We are required to post the answers to the questions on the blog, so here goes:
ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:
story based on : http://www.xnewz.com/news/us/assetsman.htm
1. Who are you telling the story for (primary audience)?
· Teenager and young adults (13-21)
· They would usually watch cartoon like Family Guy and The Simpsons
2. What reaction do you want?
· Laughter
· Slight disgust
3. Is the narrative omniscient (all seeing) or restrictive (viewed from a single perspective)?(If the narrative is restrictive, whose viewpoint are you using?)
· omniscient
4. List the important events of the story.
· Bin Wit Bum (Dim Wit Dumb) had to attend a major court hearing due to extreme debts.
· He presented a wrong ‘liquid assets’ when the court asked him to present an evidence.
· The court decided to cancel the hearing and overturn the evidence.
· He misunderstood and overturn the bottle of ‘liquid assets’ and emptied its contents all over the lawyer desk in the process.
· One month later, the proceedings restarted.
· The court asked why he had faulty hearing and there are holes in front of his house.
· He blame it on his Nintendo Wii Gun
· The judge asked whether he is brandishing any real gun.
· Dim Wit Dumb responded by pulling out a real gun and started open firing in the courtroom.
· A pigeon was harmed during the session.
· Dim Wit Dumb was sentenced to prison.
· However, he had successfully infected his inmates thinking process.
· The inmates ended up urinating on the courtroom on the day of his release.
5. Which aspects of the setting of the story are important (time of day… location… period of history…) and how do you intend to establish these important elements?
· Location: Courtroom
· Period of history: October 2007, November 2007.
· The period will be established by having the date displayed in a typewritten style every time the courtroom session is starting.
· There will also be a short scene at the beginning with newspaper declaring that Dim Wit Dumb is bankrupt and had to attend court session
6. What traits of the characters in your story are important and how do you intend to establish these traits?
· Mentally disturbed ( can be inferred from his face and throughout the story)
· Portrayed as a rich figure as he appeared in the news at the beginning of the story. He also had 2 “Nintendo Wii Gun”.
7. In what order are the important events (step 4 above) covered? Is it a strictly linear sequence of events in time, or does the story contain any flashbacks or other interruptions to the sequence of events?
· Story to be told linearly, without flashbacks
8. How does the story flow, does the pace change? Does it contain a surprise? Consider your answers to 1 and 2 above when making your response.
· Pace of the story does not change
· Element of surprise
9. How will you use sound to help all your responses to 5-8 above?
· Crowd talking could be heard as the court started to show presence of witnesses. Crowd uproar could be heard when he overturn the liquid assets and shooting of the gun to show the court is in chaos (even though the crowd will not be shown).
· The inmate will not be shown urinating however a black screen will appear the moment he took off his pants. Water sfx ,“slight” cursing, and dialogue will be used. This is because the whole scene may be rated RA if it is fully shown.
10. Does your story need dialog? (write out the dialog)
· Dialogue will be used throughout.
· Judge: “Mr Dim Wit Dumb, I mean Bin Wit Bum, would you please declare your liquid assets?”
· Judge: “What is this?”
· Dim Wit Dumb: “Well, you wanted liquid assets, right? I thought you were referring to the liquid that sometimes comes out of my ass.”
· Judge: “ The court will overturn the evidence”
· Dim Wit Dumb : “ urmmm… overturn..? okay…”
· Judge : “Silence in the courtroom! Silence!! Silence!!!”
· Judge : “Mr. Dumb, would you please explain the holes in front of your house?”
· Dim Wit Dumb: “Why, it’s because of this Nintendo Wii gun.”
· Judge: “Are you by chance brandishing any real weapons?”
· Dim Wit Dumb: “Nah… I ain’t got nothing else besides this here toy gun. You see, it just shoots blanks”
· Dim Wit Dumb: “See you matey”
· Inmate : “thanks man, I learned a lot of valuable lessons from you man. You have been a great inmate”
· Judge: “Holy Shit”
· Random A : “Jesus C…”
· Judge: “Can someone please stop him from urinating inside the court room?!!”
after finishing it, i sent the email address to Alan, I guess that is all for the day. I still have to think about the learning contract.

Day 02 - Wednesday, 22 April 2009
As promised I will tell my story today. My first story is about an old man that spend his whole Christmas Eve stuck in his septic tank as he slipped when he tried to reach the clog. His head was stuck and his feet kicking the air.
My second story was about a man that marries a dog (it was apparently the most popular as around 4 people choose the same story). The story was about a man that liked to abuse dogs when he was a kid (by throwing stones or hang them on the tree). However he had a bad luck throughout his life, one day he visited a shaman. The shaman said that the only way to overcome the bad luck and make amend to his past mistakes is to marry a dog. The man went on with the wedding.
My third story was about a bogus waiter, he approached two unsuspecting couple in two different restaurant within 2 hours and asked them whether they need anything else before paying. In the end the swindler ran off with 180+ bucks.
My fourth story (which was probably the longest and also my favourite), was about a mentally disordered man. He was asked to present his liquid assets as evidence and he ended up submitting bottle fulls of liquid from his ass. The court overturn the evidence and he misunderstood it and overturn the bottle which splattered the content of the bottle all over the lawyer desk. The court also questioned why he had faulty earring and his house is full of holes. He replied it was because of his Doggon Wii Gun (which the judge corrected it was Nintendo Wii Gun later on). He said it was only a toy gun then he took the gun out and started firing in the courtroom. Fortunately only a pigeon was harmed during the incident. The man was put into prison, however his mental disability appeared to have infected his inmates. On the day of that inmate’s release, he took off his own pants and started to pee all over the courtroom.
Today, is another group work (same members as yesterday). We were supposed to share our stories within our own group. I liked Shermin’s story about the kangaroo (kangaroo which was raised by a family and saved the man of the family when he was struck by an accident). After that the class proceeded with a story sharing session within the whole class. However, there is a catch. We were supposed to tell the story of our teammates, not our own.
After presentation, Alan asked us to fill the questions and do journal for Project 3. He said he will explain about learning contract in the near future.

Day 01 - Tuesday, 21 April 2009
Holiday is just over and we had to start our Major Project 3 right away (frankly speaking, I am still in holiday mood and were not quite happy with it).
Anyway, as soon as the class started we were separated into random group. My group members are Gregory, Shermin, Kala, Laurie and me. We voted Gregory as the leader. After that each group were given a random ‘weird’ story. We were supposed to build the story around that script. Alan gave us a paper with 10 questions as guidelines for us.
Our group got the story with the title “IT IS NOW…” The story was about a botanist trying to find a rare orchid and spend years on the research. In the end he found the orchid squashed under his camp tent for years.
Initially, we wanted to make few changes here and there with the story. We wanted to add few twists like the grandson was the one that found the flower and eat it in front of the botanist. However, Alan warned us that we should not deviate too far from the main story. We decided to go with the original story and typed it out in PowerPoint slides.
We used few ideas to show the research has been going on for years. The huts around the campsite (yeah, we choose a campsite for our location) will develop as high rise buildings as story goes. The botanist will also be shown to be aging as the story develops. We will show that the botanist have great obsession with the orchid by having him decorate his house (the first scene will be at his house, researching) with orchid wallpaper. Most of his belongings (clothes and all) will also have orchid motifs on it. Also, He will always look at orchid photo before he sleeps. To show people will be giving up, the number of tents in the campsite will be diminishing as the story proceeds.
We will use sfx to emphasise on exaggeration. For example, a sigh will be used when the botanist finally gave up, holy heavenly gospel sfx can be heard when the orchid is finally discovered and slows down as the orchid wilts. After that a loud yelling of ‘Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo’ could be heard. We planned to show gramophone at the beginning with classical music and ipod with more upbeat songs near the end to show different timeline. However, Alan said that old man will not really listen to more upbeat techno songs.
Our homework for the day was to find 3-4 weird but true stories and told it to class tomorrow. Alan gave us the project brief along with a website about weird news to help us.
After reaching home, I started researching right away. After hours of research I found around 4 stories I like (I will elaborate this more in tomorrow blog, promise).
